Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.
lessons are available in the following areas:
Instruments: Piano, Voice, Trumpet, Recorder, French Horn
For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. We will then work on repetroire focusing on what the student would sing at a recital performance. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Sound is the most important aspect of trumpet playing, and the good thing is you can practice pretty much anything and still focus on your sound. For beginners I usually supplement their beginner band book with some simple drills from Schlossberg's Daily Drills or some I wrote myself. The Clarke's Technical Studies and Arban's Complete Conservatory Method are great books as well that I use with most of my intermediate/advanced students. Read More

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE DATES BACK TO THE YEAR OF 1991. I STARTED WORKING WITH STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL, TEACHING THEM HOW TO BECOME A BETTER STUDENT OF MUSIC. IN THE LAST 22 YEARS I HAVE HAD STUDENTS TO MAKE ALL-AREA BANDS AND ORCHESTRAS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. IN THE PRESENT TIME I ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO PRACTICE 15 MINUTES A DAY INSTEAD OF THE LONG-GATED 1 HOUR PRACTICE. ALSO I ENCOURAGE THE STUDENT TO BE CONSISTENT AND 15 MINUTES AUTOMATICALLY TURNS INTO 30 MINUTES. Read More

When working with a new student, I like to hear what they have, so that way I can determine what I need to work on with said student. Because in order for a teacher to be as effective as can be for the student, they must get to know the student as a player and see what they already know so that the student is properly challenged and not bored or frustrated.
