Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

For beginning students on brass instruments, I like to use the Rubank Methods. It is important to me to get the student playing familiar tunes as soon as possible so that they enjoy playing but not at the expense of the fundamentals. Generally, I choose a piece for a student to play and then they choose a piece. I began teaching private students while in college through a music store in Ellicott City, MD. I taught students from age 6 to 15. I had up to 15 students on varied occasions. I maintained students on and off throughout my 7 years of music teaching in public schools following graduating from college, but lost many students when I relocated from Baltimore to Lancaster. For beginning students, I like to build a good foundation. I start with breathing exercises and a little mouthpiece buzzing. Then move on to a beginning book with helpful exercises as well as writing my own to tailor to the student's individual needs. I will begin to introduce solo repertoire once the student has a solid grasp on fundamentals and always encouraging them to keep practicing those key elements. As much as possible, I want my students to guide the direction of their lessons and their growth as musicians. Helping students to set realistic goals and then providing the tools needed to achieve those goals are key components to my teaching philosophy. Nothing is more exciting than feeling yourself perform something that, not so long ago, you thought you'd never be able to play. By working with the student to discover what they enjoy practicing and performing, I'm able to individualize my instruction for each student to allow them to make the most of their time with me and leave each lesson feeling confident and proud of their playing abilities.
