I typically use Steve Hedrick's Band Fundamentals book with beginners. If a student is currently enrolled in a band program, I am comfortable using whichever method book their teachers has selected. I gradually begin to introduce solo repertoire and creative activities such as composition and improvisation. With more advanced students, I will typically use a "cornerstone" book from the literature pertaining to their instrument. I am a versatile trombonist who has experience in many musical ensembles. These include orchestral, concert band, brass quintet, jazz band, jazz combo, brass band, and Marine Corps Band settings. I also have a studio where I teach trombone, euphonium, and tuba players. I regularly perform in the Northern Virginia and Maryland area at church services, with orchestras, and with big bands. My teaching experience began about 12 years ago. As a young college student, I was lucky enough to teach beginner students both privately as well as group lessons. After college, I began working in a music school in Caracas, Venezuela that was part of "El sistema".
