As a teacher, I have learned the last 4 years that you can't expect a student to just know something right away. It takes time, and students have to take it at their own pace. Sometimes, you have to differentiate instruction often, until the student starts to understand something. So, I find it is important to be student-centered and focus on the goals they can achieve, little at a time. Teaching music is one of my greatest joys. I love being able to help students of all ages unlock the mysteries of playing music. I have been playing the trumpet since age 10, and after graduating from the University of Oregon in 2001, I auditioned to play for Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited from Zimbabwe. For the next ten years, I toured North America, Europe and Africa.
