My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time and have been teaching since. Today I am a music teacher at David Posnack Jewish Day School and the drum instructor at Piper High School. Though I feel it is important that each student progress at a pace that it is comfortable for them, I expect each student to put forth the effort. The lesson should not be the only practicing that the student accomplishes during the week. It is important to practice daily. The lessons should be a place to show off your hard work. My brother was serious about playing so naturally I absorbed the sound, and an idea of how to approach the instrument from listening to his lessons and practice. My first experience teaching someone was when I was younger in my high school days, I was teaching my 7 year old nephew how to play ukulele which was an arduous task indeed. But through said trails and tribulations we managed to accomplish our goals together. Currently Im teaching guitar at the fine arts academy and I am teaching one student consistently while also substituting occasionally.
