The first lesson is often very relaxed and focused on the student's learning style. I will then start with one of the many beginner books that I feel will suit the student. Often that depends on the age, experience, and knowledge. I want the music to push the boundaries, but not too difficult. My students will focus on slow, steady, and consistent practice schedules. It is important to me to get the student playing familiar tunes as soon as possible so that they enjoy playing but not at the expense of the fundamentals. Standard repertoire in classical and jazz studies is also covered. Sight-reading, improvisation, and ear-training are also a part of most lessons.
