Overview:
I am a flutist, educator, and arts administrator originally from New Jersey. I hold a Bachelor of Music Honors Degree with Distinction in Music Education from the University of Delaware and completed a Master of Arts in Musicology from Tufts University. I am certified to teach music from K-12 and have been playing the flute for 21 years, having performed in ensembles ranging from the UD Symphony Orchestra as a flutist/piccolo player to UD Singers as a vocalist and UD Jazz Ensemble II as a trombonist. I spent two summers performing operetta and musicals on flute, piccolo, clarinet, and alto/tenor saxophone with the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, MA, and was the Woodwind Instructor for the Boston University Marching Band for three years.

EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience over the last 11 years has left me comfortable working with students of all ages and levels. During my time in Delaware, I gained experience teaching private lessons to students from beginner to advanced, ages 6 to 60 through the UD Community Music School. I have taught students in group settings through UD’s education program both in schools and through Project Music, a student-run organization that aims to expose young children to music. Some classes I have taught include Beginner Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Music Appreciation, and Music Theory. At Tufts, I volunteered to create and lead a "sound tour" focused on teaching elementary school students about music and sound and began working as the Woodwind Instructor and a Marching Technician for the Boston University Marching Band, a position that I held for 3 years. I currently teach students in my private studio.
METHODS USED
It is important for all students, regardless of ethnicity, social class, or economic standing, to participate in music as part of their academic education. Music is one of the few disciplines that requires the incorporation of many other subject areas, such as Mathematics, History, Language Arts, and even Physical Education, into its curriculum. Not only does music education foster teamwork, improve communication skills, and strengthen other skills important to personal development, but it also gives students an outlet for creative and emotional expression.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching methods are always tailored to each individual student. Learning an instrument should be fun but also requires hard work. I aim to inspire and motivate beginning students to practice by choosing music exercises and supplemental materials that suit their individual musical interests. I also feel that it is important to expose students of all levels to the many different genres of music present within the repertoire. During my lessons, I model productive methods for practicing. For this reason, lessons usually consist of warm-up exercises followed technical etudes and work on a significant solo composition or small piece appropriate to the student’s level. In addition to modeling accurate playing techniques for the student, I feel that learning to play with another musician by performing duets together is a fruitful exercise (not to mention a lot of fun). Music theory and music history are always incorporated throughout lessons in order to give the student a well-rounded approach to playing music.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
