Jersey City University Graduate Assistant

Overview:
I began playing cello in elementary school and started teaching cello lessons while I was in middle school. I love to teach and share music with my students. I graduated Manhattan School of Music in 1977  and proceeded to get my Masters degree and teaching certificate. I performed at churches, NJ Pops, musicals at the Count Basie theatre, Strand theatre, and Papermill Playhouse and I have played with several opera companies. I teach violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, piano and keyboard in Morris County. I have been teaching music lessons for more than 35 years in public school as well as private lessons. I teach in Morris County, New Jersey.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching private music lessons for more than 30 years at my home and at my student's homes.  After I received my Master's degree I obtained my teaching certificate in vocal and instrumental music for grades K - 12.  I taught vocal music for the Jersey City Board of Education and later I taught strings for the  Kearny Board of Education.  I prepared students for auditions and recitals always encouraging them to practice and learn music theory and music history.  I like my students to play solos and in groups and to enjoy playing and sharing their music and for them to feel good about their accomplishments.     I teach in Morris County, New Jersey.
METHODS USED
I use String Builder, Essential Elements, etudes, technical studies for each instrument and Suzuki Methods for strings and essential elements for clarinet. I emphasize good posture, holding the instrument and bow properly and correct finger placement. Also learning to play scales and music to prepare for auditions and a recital. I also teach students music theory and sight reading and assist with orchestral music. The repertoire is based on different musical genres and multicultural pieces and I allow the students to chose some of the music they would like to play. I teach in Morris County, New Jersey.
LESSON STYLE
I like to make learning an instrument an enjoyable experience and allow students to progress at their own pace.  I also introduce them to different styles of music such as classical, folk, Broadway musicals as well as popular songs.  In addition, I teach students new skills and techniques to enhance their playing abilities. I encourage my students to practice, ask questions about the music and how it should be played with respect to the technique and expression required to perform a piece of music effectively. I teach in Morris County, New Jersey.
