If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions to make sure the students thoroughly understand the previous lessons from the previous chapters. My experience with doing private lessons started when my last year at Bethune Cookman to earn a little extra cash in my pocket. I started out teaching beginning elementary students which sharpened up my skills for basic knowledge of the saxophone. As time progressed I started to teach intermediate student so that they can develop the tone and basic technique. As a composer, Matthews music is an amalgam of minimalism, jazz, and rock/alternative music through the lens of chamber winds. More recently, Matthew has been branching into ambient/electronic music with the goal of incorporating it into his chamber writing. As a saxophonist, Matthew has performed in a variety of settings and styles across the country. I graduated from SMU's Meadows School of the Arts (Dallas, TX) with degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance.
