I grew up playing music and participating in school bands and orchestras, but spent the first half of my adulthood in careers unrelated to music. My beginning students usually start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements, Accents on Achievements, Do It Play In Band, and much more. Once my student is able to grasp basic fundamentals and a healthy proper tone and technique, I will then be able to incorporate solo repertoire for future recitals and contests. I have been playing music for as long as I can remember and teaching it since high school. In 2012, I graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA with a Bachelors degree in Music Education with a dual focus in Jazz Studies. During that time, I had the chance to perform with artist like Branford Marsalis, Benny Golson, Nicolas Peyton and the renowned Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. I like to have a balance in my lessons between fun and challenge.  I do this by setting realistic goals each week for my students, dependent on their level of perfomance and the pace that they are progressing.  Not everyone will progress at the same pace, and I feel that it is more important for a student to master a particular lesson than to move quickly through the lesson book. I have been teaching the saxophone since 2008, to both kids and adults, beginners and advanced players. I always like to incorporate music theory and aural skills into my lessons as I believe those subjects are a must in becoming a well-rounded musician. I do not usually follow a book/method page-to-page but rather adjust the curriculum to each and every student.
