For beginning woodwind students, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or whatever the student's school band book is. Once the student knows how to read music and can play enough notes, I like to introduce scales. This provides a good foundation for moving on to duets and solo pieces, which are more enjoyable to play. In college I learned more and more about classical saxophone, and it became my dream to make that my living. If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions to make sure the students thoroughly understand the previous lessons from the previous chapters. For beginning students, I've used the Mel Bay's modern bass and guitar methods, James Bastien piano library, Essential Elements for wind instruments, Advanced Rock drumming and Master theory books by Charles S. I am a professional saxophonist/flutist in central Florida who gigs over 200+ dates a year. I freelance with original bands, wedding and corporate groups. I play in jazz, funk, RB, reggae, soul, rock, songwriter, classical and world music styles. I received my A.A. in Music Performance at Valencia College in Orlando (2012) before becoming the music tutor there for one school year from 2012-2013.
