I am a motivated musician, with a passion for performing and a desire to pass on that passion and a love of music to students of all ages. I am a graduate of Norfolk State University, where I received a Bachelors of Music degree in Music Media with a minor in Piano. My program combined classical saxophone training with, contemporary performance, and modern media outlets. During college I was a member and section leader of the University Marching band, as well as, the principle alto saxophonist (a.k.a. first chair) for both the symphonic band and jazz ensemble. I graduated with my Bachelors of Music from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. I am currently finishing his Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from Lenoir-Rhyne as well. While at Lenoir-Rhyne I was involved in a various amount of ensembles, including the newly reformed Spirit of LR Marching Band where I was the Head Drum Major for three years. For the beginners, I will teach them a little theory and structures. Then, I will teach them how to breath and start to play the mouthpiece. Second, put the mouthpiece to the neck. And start to play long notes in few minutes. Next, play the whole things and learn the fingerings. Try to play some scale in one breath. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I try to make sure that fundamentals are always maintained and that the music we are covering in lessons is stimulating and challenging while still being enjoyable for the student so that they can develop musical expression along with a strong technical foundation. Because I don't have a set template that all students follow, I believe that my constant assessment and evaluation of students needs is effective in making sure that each student's passion is nurtured and developed.
