I am an experienced musician and have played a number of genres. I also have experience in playing the 4 standard types of saxophone (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone). During my undergrad I held leadership roles in multiple ensembles which required me to train and teach students of various skill levels and ages. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. My teaching experience includes serving as a middle school band director, high school band director, middle school choir director, high school choir director, elementary school general music and choir teacher, and elementary school clarinet teacher. The youngest student I've ever taught was six years old, and I'm happy to work with children, adolescents, and adults. During undergrad in college, I also worked the music theory tutoring lab giving theory lessons to college students, so if a high school student is studying music theory, I would be able to assist with that as well. For beginning students, we will spend a good amount of the first few lessons in developing core fundamentals. Once we have a solid foundation, I will start to add in some exercises. I work out of many books to expose my students to different methods of playing. For more advanced students, I will work with them on developing more characteristic sounds. When I think about a student learning wintry to put myself in there shoes. They want to feel like they have something to show for the time that they were the class session. . if we have an hour session and at the end of the session they can go out and show off what they learned then they will. It be as motivated to come back.... So my method is to teach them while at the same time giving a practical aspect where they have something that can show and practice to develop the skill learned in the proviso session. Read More
