The method book I use often depends on the level of the student and what we are specifically working on, especially when it comes to percussion. In lessons, I typically use a book and then supplement it with other exercises or music. A former teacher of mine taught me how to create exercises for whatever I was struggling with when I was in 8th grade. I take the student at his/her own pace. I try to be sensitive to the needs of the student not just his/her musical needs but his/her academic needs as my ability to continue working with the student depends upon his/her academic success. I will suggest a basic routine at home: Housework, Practice, Study, Leisure, Bedtime.
