For beginning students, I vary my teaching methods quite a bit. I often take on students in households that already have method books purchased, and I have never had an issue with using them. At times, more books are needed, but I will allow the student to utilize these already-owned options, as I myself will supplement extra music. My teaching experience dates back to my days in college, as I began teaching in East Feliciana parish as a band director at the age of 22. I have now been teaching since then. I have made students college ready, able to receive scholarships, and be ready for any college program they choose. I have been teaching private piano and voice lessons for over 20 years, and I still love it! I love teaching all ages, beginner thru advanced. As an undergraduate, I was tapped to teach for my university's preparatory music department. After graduation, I started teaching privately, and I've never looked back. In addition to teaching privately, I have also taught music and movement classes, and that experience has helped me learn how to effectively incorporate movement in order to help students learn (especially busy little ones who don't need to be sitting for an entire half hour lesson anyway).
