I am not a passive bystander at lessons; I jump right into the music and guide students on how to best read and play each song. A theory-centered approach to piano is very important. When your child takes lessons, he or she won't merely learn how to play piano, but how to understand and love all music. Every child is capable of learning how to play piano and of being proud of what they have accomplished. Read More

My approach to teaching is to make sure my students have fun while they're learning and growing. It's important for students to learn to have fun while playing the same scale or rudiment over and over, and I think this is entirely possible! I have been in the marching band in high school for the last 5 years (8th grade - 12th grade) and was in the Ohio Chirstian University choir where we traveled to sing for different churches for 4 years. Music has always been in my blood and love to teach those who love music as well. It is my goal to teach my students the basics of music to encourage and grow their love of music; from picking up their first instrument to singing their first note, my goal is to teach them music while playing and having fun by using the Kodály method. Sometimes musicianship is as much "caught" as it is "taught." So, it's important to carefully monitor and foster a student's progress. I will use a lot of coaching, affirmation, reassurance, and encouragement to fuel a student's progress and desire to stay with it. Training in several disciplines help to identify and cater my teaching style to the needs of the student. I don't use a "cookie cutter" approach to teaching. Read More
