Practice Makes Progress! My studio of aspiring musicians of all ages strives for the motto I came up with as an alternative to the popular, yet technically impossible and anxiety-inducing Practice Makes Perfect. I am a dedicated professional singer in the DC Metro area, and I operate Hannahs Music Studio as a way to share what I have learned through my many years of music studies and performances. I have had the opportunity of performing multiple operatic roles in Italy and San Marino, as well as during my Bachelor of Arts in Music degree for Vocal Performance at Luther College (2017), and during my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Opera at the University of North Texas (2019). My teaching style has been described as one that rewards hard work and dedication, but leaves room for experimentation and fun. I believe that each student has unique gifts to offer the world, and it is my job to uncover them through a combination of connecting to the individual as a person and allowing their personality and aptitude to shine. My goal is always to inspire my students to want to learn, instead of fostering an environment where they feel forced into it. Read More

Instruments: Piano

What is rewarding to me is to see my students develop a love and passion for music. I make sure to work with each student at their own pace and encourage them to practice regularly . When I praise my students for a job well done they feel a sense of accomplishment with a desire to learn more. The ultimate climax of that accomplishment is when they perform at their piano recitals. For example, voice lessons for a child ages 6-9 would include basic pitch matching, breath control, and memorization techniques. Voice lessons for an older learner would still require basics such as pitch matching and breath control, but would also allow for more advanced skills such as aural harmonization. Music theory is a method that can be included in voice lessons, and is integrated into piano lessons from the beginning with most learners. Read More

Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Keyboard, Acoustic Guitar

I began teaching in the music performance/ production field in 2010, while away at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland. I started teaching production to middle school students first, using my laptop, audio interface, and midi keyboard. What surprised me the most was that the students wanted to play the keyboard more than record their voices, so with that being the case, my journey as a piano teacher began. After that class I became a music teachers aid and eventually found a position as a part time piano teacher at a performing arts camp. Read More
