If the student is all play and fun or is all work, I adapt to whatever they feel within themselves and follow that. If a parent is forcing a child to learn without them enjoying it I will notice and will always find a way to create a middle ground as I can offer many different forms of exploration towards a skill. In other words, I recommend allowing your child to choose what they wanna learn and trust the process as I believe if someone truly enjoys something and is passnate about they will show sufficient improvement overall in music and in life. I have been labeled a passionate, patient, and fun instructor. I focus on goal driven lessons entailing theory, ear training, repertoire, technique, and history. I studied ethnomusicology and Japanese music in graduate school, so my teaching style is inclusive and diverse. I have been performing in orchestra since the age of 15 and have performed in ensembles such as band, world music, Latin music, jazz, electronic music, and more. I can also help with compositional ideas, as I took 2 years of composition as my secondary applied area of study for my bachelor's degree. My teaching experience starts when I was in high school. I taught private lessons as well as the lead instructor in our percussion class granted by the director. When I was in high school, I wrote to percussion scores for our marching shows. In my senior year, I was picked up by a musical touring group, and I was able to play drum set with professionals.
