Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I have been labeled a passionate, patient, and fun instructor. I focus on goal driven lessons entailing theory, ear training, repertoire, technique, and history. I studied ethnomusicology and Japanese music in graduate school, so my teaching style is inclusive and diverse. I have been performing in orchestra since the age of 15 and have performed in ensembles such as band, world music, Latin music, jazz, electronic music, and more. When I teach I tend to lean towards internalizing and interpreting a piece for what it means to you. This involves asking yourself questions that transcend what is on the page, and helping you think about the music in a new way. My first experience teaching took place while I was still a bachelor student at university. I took on my first students with excitement and falling into teaching was the most comfortable happening. Knowing what was necessary to produce the desired results within myself, teaching became an expansion of self where I solved students' problems as though they were my own. I understand that my students lead busy lives and due to this, everyone progresses at their own pace. I encourage students to study at a pace that is comfortable for them however I believe that it is a teacher's responsibility to expose and push students beyond what they may feel comfortable with. Each week, my students are given realistic goals that will help them keep progressing each lesson.
