My name is Joshua. I am a 26 year old pianist who has been playing for 20 years. I am an experienced teacher, performer, and composer. I play around town in a Jazz duo, as well as in a 3 person band. I have been teaching for over 5 years and enjoy helping my students expand their mind and reach their goals for musical education. With students learning or continuing education on the piano, like to start with the basics. Once the student begins to have a grasp for that i begin to introduce reading music and theory. I also like to prepare the student to play any genre of music by sheet music or by ear as well. As far drums i also start with the basics, once the learn and grasp that we continue by learning different techniques of playing as well as teaching basic rudiments and how to read music and play drums by ear. I typically start with John Thompson's Piano Course books by levels amongst other methods as well. I will try to find out what interests the student has in learning various playing styles. I will usually begin by teaching beginners the music alphabet and identification of keys amongst other material and beginning music theory. Advise on the proper way for hand position. Also beginning to play songs and transition into reading the notes on the staff as the student progresses. Read More

For the begining for those students that they don't know music i teach them the basic, for example i start with the rhythm and after the fundamentals. They are going to learn how to read simple notes. Once they have a grasp of the fundamentals they are ready to be introduce into the piano. For the students that already know the concept and how to play the instrument, I ask where they are and I continue to provide them more so they can continue in there progress. Read More
