I love helping people learn music. I honestly believe that anyone can play an instrument with some work and everyone has a song to share. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelors Degree in Music Business. I started a band my junior year of high school called Local Uprising and we have traveled the states, opened up for some of the biggest reggae acts like Steel Pulse, Alpha Blondy, JBoog and Stephen Marley, we had #1 songs on radio and got nominated last year for Reggae Breakout Artist of the Year. For my beginning students, I will typically teach out of the Sound Innovations methods books and incorporate certain lessons from other method books as well. After a foundation has been established, I will introduce solo repertoire and begin to work toward recitals and local competitions. I introduce concepts from a variety of composers, styles, and periods, but I also want to encourage the child's love for music so I take into account what things they have heard and possibly want to learn. I have taught guitar throughout my career, working with beginners through advanced students, teaching both finger-style and flatpick techniques as well as why the chords fit together (music theory). I like to teach lessons that move step-by-step, with each lesson building on the one before, so that the student can see the improvement as they move ahead.
