I began as a formal teacher during my senior year at The University of New Haven, teaching private instrumental lessons as well as tutoring existing students in theory and other music classes. I have taught students as young as 5 years old as well as adults much older than myself with incredible results. My primary instruments are guitar and drums/percussion. Personally, I am more of a visual learner than I am an auditory learner, and that is reflected in my teaching style. I like using handouts when I teach guitar lessons, and I often refer back to them. My main goal and teaching is to inspire self motivation and make it fun! I like to pick songs that are fun to play and challenging at the same time depending on what level you are at that time. By doing this I think keeping the instrument out and not in the closet is a good start that way if the inspiration hits you and you want to play it is within your reach "guitar stand and wall hangers are ideal" and not in the case the put away " Out of sight out of mind" I suggest buying a music stand for your instruments and or wall hangers which seem to work very well as a display and also so the instrument is within your reach. Focus on proper technique for all students, regardless of his/her playing ability. Once proper technique is established, I utilize the Berklee Series as a basis for instruction. These volumes are supplemented by exercises, which I write specifically for the particular student’s needs.
