I have heard so many times in the past that students will quit an instrument early in life because they were unmotivated in boring lessons, only to later regret the decision to quit. I focus on engaging my younger students, encouraging them to find their voice, and focusing on fun along the way. It is important that younger students have fun, and are encouraged to continue learning this art form. For adult students, I focus on repertoire and material that they want to focus on learning in their own style. I emphasize breath support, body alignment, connectivity, and remaining comfortable. I frequently compliment the student's effort and work, as I understand the struggles that they are having, and it is important to recognize their strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses in order to succeed.
