My sessions are casual and personable. As much as possible, I follow the student's preferences in regards to the pace and content of each lesson as well as song selection. I can slow down for students that need more practice or provide more lessons and practice for faster learners. Each lesson has a drawing, a finger exercise, and a strumming (rhythm) component. Depending on the student, other corollary information about the structure of music, music theory, and so on are imparted as the lessons proceed, often becoming mini-lessons in their own right. For beginning students who are children, I start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements (or the Hal Leonard Guitar Method for guitar students) to build a strong foundation in reading music, proper technique, tone production, and fundamental skills. Once students have a solid grasp of the basics, I introduce age-appropriate solo repertoire to develop confidence and prepare them for their first recital performance.
