I have designed curriculums that work in phases according to the skill level of the student. In the beginning stages the curriculum is designed primarily based around the music theory required for playing the instrument at a high level. I generally do not teach directly from a book. I only use them as guides. I always felt that was the lazy way of doing things. A book doesn't know the student. I find that students of any age, learn and adapt to teaching in different ways and speeds. I start from the very bottom and we build every lesson, using previous lessons as building blocks. Consistency and practice are the key to improvement but keeping the jams fun and exciting is what keeps the students coming back and practicing. I do have scales, chords, and basic melodies I believe every student should learn, but I like to learn each student's unique style and cater to it. Everyone has a different sound and inspiration.
