My main goal right off the bat for my students is to get them playing from the very first lesson, starting with basic chords, and even have them practice a simple riff or lick from a song that they might recognize. In my philosophy, because this is how I was taught, it is important to keep the student interested, having fun, while still learning the things that they may consider "boring." I do this by implementing songs that they may know, or songs that they want to learn, and use that to teach what chords the song is using, what scales it might be using, and from that, have them practice the song and chord or scale accordingly. My teaching style is casual, friendly and positive. Eveyone progresses at a different pace, so I set realistic goals and use different approaches based on the various learning styles -- visual, tactile and auditory -- that work best for each individual. I play along with you in unison, in accompaniment and in duets, starting with the very beginning lessons. Handdrums: ocasionally i may bring over handdrums for a 15 minute session on how to play them! My music training experience includes courses at J Seargent Reynolds Community College. My course of study included music therapy, engineering and communications. I began playing the guitar 15 years ago, and have continued to improve my gift with learning Classical Music and the Bass. My range of teaching is not limited to adults.
