I have been teaching private lessons since I was in college. I started on my main instrument at the time, clarinet, and have since branched out to other woodwinds that I was also proficient and skilled in (saxophone, flute, and oboe). My teaching began in the late 1990's as professional musician in the United States Marine Corps teaching new Marine Musicians how to double & triple tongue and play minor scales as well as Greek Modes.I enjoyed the challenge of teaching someone a skill or technique. For the beginner who is 11 or younger, I start with John Thompson's Piano Courses to make sure the student familiar with all necessary elements of music. Then I will introduce some music that helps developing fingers appropriately and beautiful at the same time, such as Lemoine and Burgnlueller. Music has been a significant part of my life since I was a child, and it's importance has grown as I've gotten older. I started, as many do, in the fifth grade when I started playing the saxophone which I continued on through high school. When I was 13 I started playing the electric guitar, and I would later switch to the classical guitar at 19.
