I have been a private tutor/teacher to public, private, and homeschooled elementary students since 2017. I focus on specific subjects with certain students, but some students receive instruction in all subjects including music. I am currently teaching 2 beginning piano students. I have taught occasional private flute lessons for high school students throughout my undergraduate studies and last summer, I ran flute sectionals during a local high school's band camp. Lifetime musician with 10 years of teaching experience. I studied music performance at the University of South Florida, where I focused on flute as my primary instrument. I have also studied piano, strings, voice for over 2 decades. I have learned under many great music instructors, various members of the Florida Orchestra and also a direct student of Dr. Suzuki himself. Im a multi faceted musician with particular expertise and passion for jazz. I am an HBCU graduate and am proud of it. I recently completed my masters in Jazz Studies at the University of Arkansas at Monticello on full scholarship as a teaching assistant. I consider myself up and coming in the music world and have been blessed to have unique experiences as a performer and leader such as playing at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago or being a section leader in the Marching Wildcats of B-CU. For me is very important to know what are the students ambitions are from the beggnining; weither they are taking lessons to play flute just for fun or if they have higher aspirations. From there I can make a proper study plan for them as an induvidual, which is paramount in helping achieve the students expectations. For beginners, I will start with all the necessary information that you need about the flute: how to handle the flute, how to clean it up after practicing, and then move onto correct breating, first tone etc...For more experienced fluitests, I will get to know about their background knowledge and have them play the last pieces that have learned to get an idea of where we would start. During the initial lesson, I determine what the student is interested in learning the best approach pace to help them achieve their goals. While I have recommend materials to varying levels of students, every lesson approach is different. With all my students, I believe keeping them engaged and excited at what they are doing is most important. I've found even the simple act and writing out a favorite song and learning through that can give wonderful benefits, gaining new tools without realizing. Read More
