Drums/Percussion: This being my main area of expertise, I can get you to where you want to be. My approach depends on your goals. For the drum set, my preferred approach is a bit like Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid. We will begin away from the drum set doing isolated hand/foot exercises (will need a practice pad), analyzing together music the student is interested in, and hammering home the importance of a relaxed body and proper posture. I also firmly believe that once it is apparent that there's nothing else I can teach you, I will recommend you study from a more advanced instructor. In addition, I like to incorporate my student's interests into their goals. For instance, for my guitar students, I like to set a realistic goal (a song they want to be able to play) and tailor my lessons towards my student being able to play that, while at the same time learning their fundamentals, or whatever else is in their lesson plan for that session.
