I use a variety of methods, depending on the music style covered (jazz, rock, latin, etc) and your skill level. Once we get to know each other on that first lesson we will decide which method suits you best. Some of these are: Syncopation, by George L Stone Stick Control, by George L Stone Modern Reading Text, by Louis Belson Realistic Rock, by Carmine Appice The Drummers Complete Vocabulary, by John Ramsey Essence of Afro-Cuban Percussion Drumset, by Ed Uribe Primary Handbook for Mallets, by Garwood Whaley Read More
Instruments: Piano, Drums, Synthesizer, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Conga, Latin Percussion, Music, Keyboard, Djembe
The method book I use often depends on the level of the student and what we are specifically working on, especially when it comes to percussion. In lessons, I typically use a book and then supplement it with other exercises or music. A former teacher of mine taught me how to create exercises for whatever I was struggling with when I was in 8th grade. To this day that is still a prevalent method I use because it utilizes the student's creativity and allows them to take ownership of their learning. Read More

Instruments: Drums
I normally start off by teaching them the grip for the drum stick and the basic stroke. From there I will teach them basic rhythmic patterns found in styles such as rock, pop, and jazz. I will also teach them what the notation looks like for those rhythmic patterns. From there, I will have them read more advanced rhythmic patterns and exercises that contain those pattens in simple beginning percussion books. Read More
