I have always enjoyed teaching others. Even in high school, I consistently helped my peers with their learning and enjoyed helping them learn how to play percussion instruments. After starting college in 2009, I began formally teaching percussion privately and in groups at high schools in my area. I have since expanded to teaching guitar, bass guitar, and composition, incorporating compositional elements into all of my lessons. My teaching style is very focused on the student's desire to learn what they want. Very early into taking on a new student, I try to find what/who inspires them. Doing so allows me to tailor my teaching to each individual student. I also like to have 3 main "small improvement" objectives for each lesson. There's improvement on what we did during our last lesson, improvement during the lesson with something new I will introduce, and improvement for our next lesson with something I will give to the students to work on themselves after our lesson. My teaching style is based on each student's needs. Some students like to learn at a fast pace and others like to go slower. I listen carefully and ask questions, basing instruction on what creates success. My approach is to make learning fun. I began teaching younger kids in early high school, and have been teaching ever since. Students are able to start learning percussion with just a pair of sticks, a practice pad, and a book or two, and can get started in piano with a decent keyboard. Many students are scared away when they look at the price of a full drum set or a piano, but a music education can easily be accomplished with a tight budget! Read More

My curriculum consists of proper match grip technique, the rudiments, limb independency, learning to play with dynamics, and a plethora of beats and fills designed to give the student the necessary tools to become a drum machine. I write out all lessons so that the student has something to refer to once the lesson is over.
