For beginning students or children, I will start teaching the importance of note value on printed music. Whether it's drums, piano, guitar, or any orchestral instrument, they all share a common thread in melody and rhythm. Once the student has a firm grasp on note value and melody, they will begin to learn simple songs that gradually increase in difficulty.
