I have had extensive lessons on all ends of the music education spectrum. I took informal guitar lessons from rock n roll musicians who couldn't read music while I was in middle school/high school, and I took classical lessons while in college from professors who couldn't improvise in more than one or two styles (or sometimes none). I believe there is a happy medium that is the ideal way for music to be taught. Read More

Goals are always tailored to individual student interests. I like to assign practice homework, which is a mix of technical exercises and song-based learning using student-preferred music. I love to watch students peel back the layers of the onion and discover how their favorite artists make music, from learning common chord progressions to transcribing solos note-for-note to imitating playing styles. Very important: Students should also be prepared to be on the receiving end of some high-quality dad jokes, which may or may not be sprinkled throughout homework assignments along with salt and pepper to taste. New Orleans has welcomed me with open arms and I have been able to play with, and learn from many great musicians here. The first significant gig I got in New Orleans was with the Jason Marsalis vibes quartet. Jason was also a teacher of mine in college and he hired me for many gigs upon my arrival to New Orleans. I was able to record a live record with him entitled 'Jason Marsalis Live!' (Basin St Records) and I've toured around the U.S. with his group since 2018. Read More

I was raised in a musical family. My father, brother, and sister all played guitar. I began playing drums in the school band at ten years old. At twelve I got my first drum set. At fourteen I began playing in a band and started playing shows. In college I played drums in four different bands playing shows all over the city. After college I played with a punk band, a psychedelic rock band, a folk-rock band and an R&B artist. Read More
