I am not a teacher who uses specific method books. I use books based on the student's musical preferences or sometimes none at all. A good technique is always emphasized. For beginning woodwind students, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or whatever the student's school band book is. Once the student knows how to read music and can play enough notes, I like to introduce scales. This provides a good foundation for moving on to duets and solo pieces, which are more enjoyable to play. Over the years, I've learned that every single student learns differently in addition to going at their own pace. Anyone at any age CAN learn music! I've found that presenting multiple solutions to varying problems gives the students the best chance to succeed and it's not that someone cannot learn, they just haven't been presented with an explanation they can understand and clicks for them.
