I am a professional saxophonist/flutist in central Florida who gigs over 200+ dates a year. I freelance with original bands, wedding and corporate groups. I play in jazz, funk, RB, reggae, soul, rock, songwriter, classical and world music styles. I received my A.A. in Music Performance at Valencia College in Orlando (2012) before becoming the music tutor there for one school year from 2012-2013. While pursuing my studies, I took various pedagogical classes such as Woodwind methods, and Pedagogy for Musicians, both of which I received A+'s in for my final grade. In the first lessons, I explain the the beginner students the basic functionality of the instruments, the proper way to hold the instruments, how to produce a clear sound from the instruments and a Major scale ascending and descending, the one from which the first lessons or the next lessons is written. If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions t o make sure the students thoroughly understand the lessons from the previous chapters and he or she is ready to proceed to the next lessons. When I start teaching new student I usually use Sergey Rozanoffs method and also my fathers Sergey Gutorov senior methods on both instruments clarinet and saxophone. Usually with a beginners for the first few lessons I start solfge and music theory and later continue introducing instrument. It is very important for woodwind players to learn from very beginning how to use air and embouchure right way.
