Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

My teaching method is quite flexible depending on the abilities and skill sets of each student. For a vocal student, I will use solfege as a basic tool to advance sight-reading skills as well as functions of each scale degree in its harmonic structure. I believe that the ability to read music as a vocalist is crucial for further advancement as a musician. I will assess each student's current level of musicianship and design suitable warmups and vocalisms that will aid in preparing art songs that may also include foreign languages. Read More

My style largely depends on the student and his/her needs and interests. I enjoy using rewards-based encouragement, especially for younger students. The rewards I give are always musical and I usually let the student choose. For example, one of the rewards for consistent practice, learning songs, and listening to recordings is the opportunity to write a parody song. I started teaching in band camp the summer after my first year of college and have continuously worked with several schools in KY. I have given lessons to students who are just starting out and high school students preparing for auditions and/other performances. I highly encourage students to start taking lessons as early as possible to establish good habits and break bad ones. Typically in the first lesson, I assess the playing level of the student by asking them general questions about what they have done with music so far. From there it is easy for me to determine what to begin teaching first. For beginner students, I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book. If the student has graduated from the beginner book, then I can proceed to intermediate or advanced methods which will include a combination of studies in pedagogy, repertoire, composers, etudes, ensemble work, and technical studies.
