I use both the french methods Klose and Druet because they cover a lot of the needed technique but I treat each case differently depending on the students needs and aspirations. They are many ways of achieving a good technique while learning music and training our ears. I have developed my own method through the years. After students have passed through the fundamentals, we will work out of the Rubank intermediate or advanced books for technique development. These four parts include clarinet fundamentals, rhythmic studies, scales studies, and musical selections. For a beginning student (2 or less years of experience), a typical lesson would included basic clarinet fundamentals (how to play the clarinet correctly), and appropriate rhythmic studies which will compliment selected music from the Standard of Excellence book series that interests the student.
