For all my students I want to get to know their interests and goals as a musician. I always start with technique and scales with 2 pieces. I always suggest using a metronome and tuner and listening to recordings of the pieces. Physical positioning with the cello is also very important incorrect instruction on posture can lead to injury’s, discomfort and intonation problems. I've found that keeping an open mind about methods is really helpful when dealing with beginning students, young and old. I've tought from various method series including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Emily Wright's A Modern Cellist's Manual, Muller Rusch, and more. While I'm not a certifited Suzuki instructor, I do teach from the Suzuki method when students or parents request it.
