I began teaching about 4 years ago, I worked for TakeLessons in which I did both Online lessons and face-to-face. I pride myself in making my students succeed, I’ve had students start taking lessons with me starting in the lowest orchestra and after some months they are in the top orchestra and in a couple of occasions they were also first chair. I believe in meeting students where they are and catering lessons to their specific learning styles. Not everyone learns everything in the exact same way. While I do teach using standard, classical repertoire more often than not, my goal as a teacher is to help my students develop a deep love and passion for music; hence, I often find it incredibly helpful to branch out into other genres! I found myself wanting to teach students, of all ages- anyone that had a desire to learn the cello. With regard to my private studio, I teach using the traditional method. I believe every student needs a foundation of classical music. If a student wishes to learn other genres, I am happy to support those interests as well. I teach music primarily through reading. I incorporate some ear training. I also teach music theory and music history within a given lesson, because it is my believe that theory and history assist students in having a greater understanding of why they are performing what they are and how to interpret the work. While I am new to teaching, I am hoping to create a comfortable environment where students do not feel rushed to complete pieces or practices, and we will always move at the students pace. If a student is not yet ready to move on to the next piece, then we will continue polishing whatever they need before moving on. I will always keep a log of what the student is currently working on, and what they should work on between lessons so we can always make sure things get done, and can move on to new things. I had the opportunity to be the leader of the cello section, where some of my responsibilities included preparing the cello section with weekly sectionals for performances, as well as playing the cello solos in the orchestra. I believe that music lessons should have the performance as a goal, but actually enjoying each day of practicing. In this manner, the performance is the culmination, and a celebration, of a worthwhile journey. Read More
