At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. My first experience teaching was during the summer when I began instructing swim lessons for the town pool. I quicly began to seek out a way to teach music before I was in college and built a small studio of beginner cellists in my home town. I also began performing in both classical and other styles during this time, something I continue to do today.
