I was brought up classically trained on the Suzuki books but I am completely flexible. If you have or have heard of a set of books you like we can use that too. If you don't know how to read music we can focus part of the lesson on music theory and the rest on learning from recordings and playing by ear. My teaching career started while studying abroad in Guadalajara Mexico, I taught Solfege and helped the chorus out in Hermilo Hernandez institute of music, then went on to teach private lessons to beginner cello students there as well. when I came back to El Paso Tx, I joined the ASTA Group and we helped lower-income students by providing after school classes for no charge. I believe in making each lesson personal and fun. I pay close attention to how each student learns best. I start with the basics, building solid technique and gradually introducing more challenging pieces. I love incorporating short theory lessons as my students advance, and with my younger students, I play theory games so they can remember music being made fun! I earned my Associates Degree in 1984, in Music Performance, from Community College of Rhode Island. I've been playing bass guitar and double bass, professionally for over 35 years in various bands, groups, orchestras and with international stars such as Ray Charles and Andrea Bocelli. I've played in locations such as Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Maryland, New Jersey, and as far west as Chicago an Detriot. Throughout my teaching and personal performing, I have realized how important consistent positive practice is.
