For early students, I typically start with the Suzuki books, as I like the organized technical and musical progression of each piece. As the students develop I begin to add supplimentary materials such as etude and scale books. Students can progress from open strings to Bach with ease. More advanced students can expect a healthy dose of scales, Popper etudes, concertos, and Bach. Read More

I believe that all students can achieve at a high musical level when they are encouraged and paired with a teacher with high expectations. The most successful students tend to be the ones that are taught by great educators that can elicit the hidden talents from their students. I strongly believe that every person can succeed in music given proper attention and opportunity, and therefore focus my lessons differently for individual students according to their skills and interests. For beginning students, unless they are adults or already proficient in another instrument, I always start with my favorite method books to ensure the fundamentals are firmly established. I usually realy on Alfred's Basic Piano Course, Strictly Strings, Suzuki, or Essental Elements depending on the instrument I'm teaching. Read More

I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. Once the student has progressed and shows some motivation to be slightly challenged, I'll introduce "popular" music so that the student feels a sense of accomplishment! Music is associated with movies, radio, etc., so to be able to play something recognizable is exciting for the student and the teacher. Read More

I follow my teacher's teaching because I have seen that it has worked on so many other people that have become amazing performers, and since my teacher is from the old German school, he is very strict in how technique should be learned. For beginners I start with Friedrich Dotzauer "113 Cello Etudes" to form foundation and technique, After a good foundation, the intermediate level is with Friedrich Dotzauer Exercises for the cello Book 1 and book 2, at this point some repertoire will be introduced to the student as well as the style of repertoire piece that will be studied and practiced, the student will pick repertoire so it can be fun for both parties.
