My favorite part about teaching is teaching beginners. It's so much fun to introduce a brand new instrument to someone and show them all that learning music has to offer. I mainly focus on the basics of music, and music theory in order to give students the tools they need to teach themselves when I'm not around, or if lessons have to discontinue for some reason. With the cello and double bass, I use the Suzuki books, along with my own system I've developed. On the bass guitar, I start by focusing on songs that student is already familiar with, and then expand from there. I have all of my students identify songs that they would like to learn on their own, while studying other pieces of music at the same time. I want my students to know how to both read music, and "play by ear." I teach them to really use their ears, to know if they're playing in tune, and if their rhythm and tempo are correct. Read More

I began my formal education at Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle as Classical Cello major, moved to their Jazz Department as a Bassist and then to the University of Washington to complete my degree in Music Education.
