I finally graduated with a degree from University of Texas Pan American (now 'UTRGV'). Shortly after my graduation I became a fully certified public school music teacher for k thru 12th grade. And throughout my college & teaching years until now I have played with various bands as well as solo projects. Some of the highlights in my career as a professional musician were appearances on Johnny Canales, recording two albums with legendary Grammy award winning producer 'Gary Katz' (Steely Dan, Diana Ross, Christopher Cross, Dire Straits) as well as legendary Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez. Though I've been playing music since I was 10 years old, I had always viewed it as a hobby until I was a junior in College. After graduating from Texas State University in 2010, I nose-dived into the Austin music scene and after a couple years of networking and collaborating with other musicians, I found myself performing with a band called Calliope Musicals. For beginning students who have no experience on their instrument, I usually spend a fair chunk of time working on basic technique using books like the Essential Elements series or Greg Horne's similar books for folk instruments. I usually combine the book material with other songs/pieces relevant to each student's interests. For more advanced students, I usually find a mix of repetoire relevant to their interests and technical exercises for them to refine and develop technique. Read More

I played bass guitar in high school and university jazz bands, the latter of which performed very well at the UNC Greeley Jazz Festivals in the early 2000s. I was required to learn to play and teach brass instruments, and am proficient at those, as well. I have been very fortunate to also have been around a lot of world class teaching after becoming a teacher, myself; much of that is courtesy of the Texas Music Educators Association and the wonderful teachers I have encountered in my career.
