The love of music develops differently in each person. Because I have found that most "creatives" are fairly emotionally driven, I believe it is of the utmost importance to retain a sense of encouragement at every milestone no matter how small. I like to stay positive, helpful, and personal. A passion for learning music is never something that can be forced. Therefore, when teaching a student, I never force them to achieve unattainable goals. I encourage them to learn at their own pace with "stepping-stone" goals; my students learn rudiments that build onto progressively more advanced techniques! I will also look at songs pertaining to their chosen instrument and their current proficiency at said instrument. With a teacher-mom, I believe my teaching experience started as soon as I could wrangle the attention of my little sister or stuffed animals. Officially I did some tutoring and a pre-teacher program in high school, along with some volunteering at after school programs. I also tutored and taught private lessons while in college. In my student teaching semester, I taught P-12 music classes including band and music appreciation. After college I spent ten years with a Christian camping organization where I taught as well.
