Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce instrument specific work from various time tested method books, solo repertoire appropriate for any auditions they may be interested. I started playing the piano in college and have learned to play many instruments in my career. I was an Elementary school teacher for 20 years teaching music, band, English Language Arts, Science, and History. I guess you could say I've had a great deal of experience with children as well as adults and still enjoy working with kids in my studio. Currently, I hold positions as principal trumpet with the state philharmonic orchestra of Sonora, Mexico; second trumpet with the Sierra Vista Symphony; third trumpet with the Tucson Pops Orchestra, substitute/extra with the Phoenix Symphony and Tucson Symphony Orchestra. My teachers have included principal trumpeters of the Cleveland Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I love making music and helping students to be confident making music. I know that life can get busy and students won't always be able to practice every day, so I set realistic goals for them and emphasize that even just a little bit of (focused) practice is much better than no practice at all.
