University of Redlands- Music Scholarship
Hello, everyone! My name is Zoe. I am a California native that has recently moved to the east coast! I studied music for my undergraduate degree at The University of Redlands and have recently decided to pursue music therapy and mental health counseling for my graduate degree at Drexel University. I have been playing violin for 15 years and have been involved with music my whole life. I have studied privately with some of the best performers on the west coast and consider myself to be a life long student. There is always more to learn!
I have been teaching music both privately and in the classroom for the past two years and have loved every minute of it. I have had the pleasure of working with the LA based non-profit "The Harmony Project" and worked with the top performers and teachers in the greater Long Beach area. In my opinion, there is nothing more special than sharing the gift of music with people. I may be the teacher, but my students teach me as well. Everyone has different stories to tell, and I love hearing about them all.
For my beginning students, I like to start with the anatomy of the violin and the violin bow. Once my student understands the components of their instrument, I think it is then appropriate to learn about how to properly hold it and take care of it. I then teach my students how to hold their bow, how to hold their violin/viola/cello, and then how to hold it in "rest position". We will go over the different strings and then get to playing! Learning how to pull your bow across the strings proves to be the most difficult thing to do for a beginner so we will spend some time here. Once the student can properly use their bow, we will start going over very basic rhythm and begin to play some music on open strings!
For intermediate/ advanced players, I will need to assess where the student is individually. Etudes, scales, and repertoire are essential and will be incorporated into every lesson.
I am always open to customizing the lessons for my student- I want my students to enjoy their time with music. Everyone will go at their own pace and I believe it is my job to encourage growth and I will assign work that I deem as appropriate for my students' current skill level. As a student myself, I know how necessary it is to have open communication with your private teacher and I want everyone to be successful. Music is a very special and individual journey. It is my sincerest hope that it is the journey for you!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
