Overview:
I have been a musician my entire life. At age 2 I started studying violin with the Suzuki method. Later on I added piano and voice to my studies, eventually chosing voice as my main instrument. In 2006, I graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor in Music in Classical Voice. Performing all over the world has been a dream come true, both as a classical singer and as a more contemporary jazz/blues/pop singer.
EXPERIENCE
I am passionate about music and I am a profound believer that if one shows one's passion to a student, that student will in turn be motivated and passionate as well. My teaching experience extends back 6 years ago teaching piano to very young children. Over the years I've taught voice to students both who want to be professionals or who want to simply learn how to sing for their own pleasure. In the past year I have also been teaching music appreciation to toddlers as young as 6 months old. In my teaching, I like to be as personalized as possible, understanding who my student is, what he likes to hear and using that as the basis for what we do. In doing so the students feel fulfilled in their passion and it makes for a much more fun and profound learning process!
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are students, I typically begin the piano with Suzuki method, and learning solphege via games and colors. For adults interested in the piano, my method is very personalized, you will tell me what music motivates you, and that will guide my instruction. In voice lessons, we will be very focused on technique at first to setup fundamentals that will allow for healthy singing and proper breathing. Then, depending on the genre you are interested in studying, we will start applying that technique to songs. I definitely encourage practicing at home as much as possible, while still maitaining a spirit of experimenting and freshness.
LESSON STYLE
For my voice students, I am very open minded and like to help develop my students curiosity to listen to different musicians and approaches to singing. Depending on what genre my student is interested in, we will dive in together to learn more and more about it. Students are encouraged to record our lessons and use them for their practice during the week.  With younger children, I encourage realistic goals for each lesson by setting simple homework that guides their practice at home. I will also include parents in this process so that they can help their child during the week. By doing this the child feels a sense of achievement when he finishes learning a song and can perform it on his own. Games and physical activity are also essential for younger students, so that they can better chanel their energy.
