BA, Rhode Island College, Music
I am a continuous learner dedicated to the craft of music and it's infinite possibilities. I love working with students to help them reach their goals and realize their potential. Its my firm belief that we as musicians must embrace the role of musical creator, and it is that aspect that I endeavor to bring out of my students. I graduated from Rhode Island College in 2010 with a Bachelors of Arts in Music and Minor in Jazz Studies. I am currently focused on composing original music for my first album.
I first began teaching 5 years ago while still in college, I had several students whom I taught privately in home and in my own personal studio. I also taught at a local high-school for doing sectionals, small ensembles, and worked one on one with students. Most recently I taught as a lead preschool teacher. I currently teach private lessons for clarinet and saxophone in a local music store and out of my home studio.
For all students beginning or intermediate I strongly emphasize building a firm foundation in the fundamentals, by focusing on reading, scales, instrumental technique, and practice methods. For beginning students I like to start with 'Rubank's Elementary Method Book'. If a student is having difficulties with rhythm and syncopation I might suggest 'Modern Reading Text in 4/4' by Louis Bellson. From there students will explore chord scales, solo repertoire, and improvisation. Yet while the rudiments are essential, our chief concern in a lesson is to play music and enjoy it. My aim is to empower and inspire musical creators, who revel in the act of musical creation!
I encourage students to bring their own interests and goals into the lesson, whether it be playing a piece of band music, preparing for an audition, playing a jazz standard, or learning to solo over the blues. I focus on answering student's individual needs, help them set attainable goals, and guide them to realize their own aspirations.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
