PSD (post-graduate degree) - San Francisco Conservatory of Music
MM in performance - UCSB
BM in performance - San Francisco Conservatory of Music
Recently Tracy and fellow San Francisco Conservatory alumni Jon (percussionist) were 1 of 4 ensembles chosen to perform at the Conservatory's first ever Alumni Showcase Concert in September of 2012.
Tracy is a band instructor at the San Francisco Day School and the Flute Instructor, as well as their Woodwind Instructor for their After-School Program, and the Flute Instructor at the American Indian Public Charter School in Oakland. Tracy received her Professional Studies Diploma from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (having also received her BM there) where she studied with Tim Day (Principal Flutist of the San Francisco Symphony); she also did work for her MM at UCSB where she studied with renowned soloist/educator Jill Felber. As an advocate of new music, Tracy can be seen performing in her flute and guitar duo Silver & String, and the Mik Nawooj Ensemble (which is a unique ensemble that blends the genres of classical, hip-hop, and jazz; and even performed at the renowned Yoshi’s SF Jazz Club). While living in the Bay Area Tracy has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to perform in concert with amazing musical talents such as rock legend Sting, renowned mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, and trumpeter Chris Botti.
Tracy has 10 years of teaching experience, both inside a classroom and on a one-on-one basis; and taught for several years as the Orff Schulwerk assistant at Starr King Elementary where she worked with kindergarten through 2nd grade teaching fun and essential beginning music classes; and was the Flute Coach at Presidio Middle School where she coached 6th through 8th grader flute classes, woodwind ensembles, and occasionally the entire band classes.
Some of the methods Ms. Goodwin likes to incorporate are as follows:
for piano:Piano Adventures by Nancy & Randall FaberPiano Basics by BastienEasiest Piano Course & Modern Piano Course by Thompson
for flute:Flute 101 Mastering the Basics by Louke & GeorgeA Tune A Day by Herfurth17 Daily Exercises by Taffanel & Gaubert-then I pick different solo pieces, duets, and etude books depending on the student's level
for clarinet:Method for the Clarinet by KloseRubank Method-then I pick different solo pieces, duets, and etude books depending on the student's level
As far as my approach to music, I like to customize lessons for each individual...meaning that I incoporate the fundamentals of trained playing (tone development, accurate rhythm, breath control, etc) into everyone's lessons, along with etudes, solo pieces, duets, and scale/long tone exercieses, but I also like to see what really sparks your interest...such as if you are really into pop music, we can incorporate learning some pop songs, or if you love Irish jigs, or Spanish music... basically I believe in making learning music enjoyable, because the more we enjoy it the more we want to play it.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
