I am a well-rounded musician, currently attending the highly competitive Historical Performance program at the Juilliard School in New York City. I have studied and concerted on all of the instruments I teach - violin, piano and viola although I am most active as a violin performer. I earned my master's degree at Indiana University where I was lucky to get acquainted with Mimi Zweig's string pedagogy method. I love teaching and sharing my passion for music with students of all ages.
Before moving to New York, I was priviliged to gain a wide-ranging teaching experience. I taught beginners and intermediate students in private lessons and group class, but also college students as well. As an associate Instructor in the music theory department at Indiana University I taught group class undergraduate level solfege, ear training and aural skills, as well as undergraduate violin and piano in private setting.
As I do teach students on three different instruments, I have developed different methods for all of them. While I can and do start beginner violin and viola students with the Suzuki method I am very flexible in my approach with this method as I believe each student has different learning abilities, attention span etc. I make sure piano beginners learn to enjoy practicing while building technical skills at the same time. For intermediate and advanced students I welcome students' choice of repertoire, although I always have suggestions for appropriate pieces.
I am flexible with my teaching style according to each student's age, abilities and goals. I encourage progress in the long term, while not pushing students with unrealisitc expectations. I believe in being positive in lessons and in giving the students recognition of their achievements. I am a supportive teacher and I keep track of all my students' repertoire and performances.
Toma I. has taught piano to my two children (11 and 8) this past year. They both look forward to and enjoy their lessons. I highly recommend Toma as a piano instructor.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
